When General Mosquito Met Speaker Bagbin: NDC,s  Political Graph

Disclaimer: I am a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ and not a party politician, but I like politics. I may not make sense but take a bite.

As the reshuffle in the minority side of Ghana’s parliament was announced, I decided to draw one or two lines together to understand the political graph the bigwigs in NDC seem to be plotting. I have heard several reasons given for the reshuffle that I must say, confirms my unspoken thoughts.

In fact, I was trying to follow the graph when I read on myjoyonline.com about another reason given by Asiedu Nketiah for the reshuffle. That reason seriously stamped my thoughts as true.

I wanted to write this as a fictional conversation between General mosquito and Speaker Bagbin rather than going direct but let’s see how it goes. Let’s take it one after the other

1. Every organization has some infightings. It is not a lie to Say General Mosquito clicks well with Speaker Bagbin. Do you think it’s a joke that he serves on the parliamentary service board?
2.  I am a novice in politics but I know that Haruna and Muntaka have some issues with Bagbin- which is understandable anyway. There were times in parliament when the Speaker and Muntaka disagreed sharply.  In fact, at a particular time, Speaker Bagbin had to ask that Muntaka’s submission should be expunged from the Hansard (you can go and verify this).

3. I believe (I may be wrong) that Bagbin feels disrespected by Muntaka and Haruna. You know the feeling of ‘we brought you here, if not for our sacrifice in chasing that MP who snatched the ballot paper etc’. so, to say they are not cooperating as General Mosquito said is a known fact. That feeling of ‘if not for us’ may be there.
4.  It will not be difficult for Bagbin to tell General Mosquito something like this.’ now that you are the boss, we have to do something. These guys don’t take me for anything. Let’s meet and talk about this and see how we can take them out and still win in 2024. People will talk but the dust will settle before election time comes. (keep in mind that Haruna did not openly support or stand against Nketia’s bid for chairmanship……)
5. Now let’s look at the issue of balance. Some MPs in the central and Western Region indeed started calling for parliamentary leadership to shift to their zone just after the election on the bases that they contributed largely to the party’s close range to the NPP in parliament. This is what I think is in the mind of the NDC: Mahama, Bagbin, and Haruna are all northerners. Even Muntaka and Ahmed Ibrahim though not holding northern seats in parliament have strong affiliations with the north (if you know what I am talking about). Follow my thoughts closely.

6. So, we have five top men from the north, so to suggest. In case Mahama takes the mandate to lead the NDC, there could be a problem in the south though he will choose a VP from the south. Sacrificing Haruna and Muntaka might not affect them that much in the north since they still have three huge names from the North (Mahama and Bagbin and Ahmed Ibrahim). The tension will eventually die down because Mahama would say something like this: ‘I am part of you. I am a Northerner. We will work together and this will be said in the Hausa language.
7.  Now that central and western have a place in the front seat, they can also use that to canvas for more votes in the southern part of the country.
8. What about the Volta? In their thinking, which they have openly confirmed, they can’t toil with that. This is why, if an Avedzi must go, an Agbodza must come or else it will be too troublesome for them.
9. Politics is about numbers and I believe these are their permutations. However, as I said from the onset, the rift and rough edge abound and it is a factor you can’t sweep under the carpet.

10. Right now, Haruna and Muntaka are somehow quiet because it is not safe to comment (especially Haruna whom we are told has a presidential ambition). If Bagbin is behind this plot, what can he do? You don’t want General Mosquito to pull strings against you come the primaries leading to the 2024 elections (though it would be difficult for him to do). Don’t forget that the General and Bagbin are ‘one’.
11. Mahama will consistently distance himself from this to maintain his control of the north. He would have to calm Haruna and Muntaka down with some promises.

Well, I am a preacher and not a politician. However, it is often said that every human being is a political animal. I may be wrong but these are my thoughts. Remember, opinions are like onions, everybody has a layer of it.
