Pretend To Be Sick
Pretend To Be Sick
Once upon a time, their lived a young man whose father was the most prominent of his day. The father had many wives and a number of children. As the king’s son, he was accorded a lot of respect. A very tall and handsome young man with potential to lead his father’s empire one day
It came to pass on a certain day that he invited his friend for a walk. As they walked and talked, he opened up on something that has been eating him up for weeks.
Look! I am falling for my half-sister and I need your advice. Can’t take this burning anymore. Can you imagine using every available trick to get her but to no avail? The last time I met her at the market close to our usual hide out, I winked at her but she doesn’t seem to get me.
Boy! You have to help me find solution to this thing. I don’t care the consequence and you know none of my father’s sons can stand me in any situation.
As his friend listened to him while he vomited all that was in his heart, he decided to ask him some questions.
My friend, you know I have known you for a long time so I am going tell you what I think.
I know why you called me. When it comes to girls, I am the champion in roasting and toasting them right? But am sorry, this is beyond me. Your sister? Yes, it is true that she’s your half-sister but she is still your blood.
Can’t you think of any other lady in this entire community? That you can lawfully marry?

You know I am the only one who can tell you the truth.
As he listened to his friend, he wondered if he took the right decision by inviting him. I thought you were my friend, he interjected. Yes, I am and this is the best advice I can give you. There are things one ought not to do and this is one of them you are trying to hatch. When it lays the egg, I am not sure you will like it.
I think yo have overstayed your welcome. You may leave! Just like that? I will go my friend but remember it is not every counsel that should be sweet to the ear. What you claim you are feeling is not true love.
The next day he decided to talk to another friend. This one happens to be his close cousin.
It’s been a long time since we met, my guy. You look so pale. With all your father’s wealth you are still this sad?
Leave wealth out of this! What is worrying me now is a waist problem and not wealth.
Tell me! What are brothers for. Sure, let me get straight to the point.
I am sick of love for my half-sister. I am truly getting weaker and weaker each day and I can’t explain it. How can you help me?
Mhmmm! If only you can do as I say, she will be yours tonight.
Really? You know money is not a problem here, right? If it works you know what I am capable of doing.

First things first: Pretend to be sick. You know how caring your father is and there is no doubt he won’t come and see you.
When he arrives, tell him to talk to your sister so she comes to prepare some light soup for you.
Make sure everything is in place before she arrives and let your servants depart immediately she finishes cooking. The rest is up to you. If you like, let her go in peace. If you like, let her go in pieces. Life goes on.
This is the cleverest idea I have received in ten years. Sharp! I am going home. Please pass by my father’s end and tell him I am not feeling well and leave the rest to me.
To cut the long story short he carried out the plan to the last dot. His father brought their family doctor to check on him. He said he just needed to rest. That was when he requested that his half-sister comes to prepare the light Soup for him.
Unknown to her, he had all his plans well arranged.
As soon as his attendants saw that she entered his inner chamber with the meal, they all left the room.
Brother, I have finished. Next time don’t be sick, she said jokingly not knowing that she was the meal and not the pepper soup. Dear sister, come over and feed me, please. I feel very weak.
This is serious! Feed you? When did you become a baby! Please get up and stop this play.
I am not kidding please. At least bring it closer to the edge of the bed.
It is at this point that the cobra struck. He firmly held and pulled her to the bed. Don’t shout I will not harm you he whispered.

Don’t do this! This is a sacrilege. Okay wait, wait. Calm down. Why don’t you talk to our father, he might arrange this. Don’t behave like a foolish person who has no brain.
At that, he pounced on her and raped her with a numbed conscience. In 3 mins, he was done.
Sweating like a pregnant fish, he got up and told her to get out.
Feeling so embarrassed and immediately depressed for what has happened, she protested. You can’t throw me out like this. You have committed a huge crime and on top of that you are throwing me out?
He never listened to her. He threw he out and bolted the door after her.
The poor lady felt so embarrassed. She went straight to her brother’s house (one father, one mother) and wept her heart out.
This thing became known in the community. Their father never reprimanded him. His other half-brother whose direct sister he raped felt very bitter and offended but never spoke a word to him.
The next day, his cousin came to him and asked about how things went. I will not lie to you I did it but I feel very empty, he responded. What do you mean you feel empty after the plan has worked and you enjoyed. Where from this emptiness again. You will not understand he continued.

I feel a terrible hatred for that girl. The hatred I have for her now seems to surpass the love I claimed I have for her. I don’t even want to see her face again in my life.
Why are you talking like this? Anyway, I heard that your other brother has heard the matter and he is very angry and bitter. So be careful.
Two years after this incident, his other half-brother organized a party and invited him with the permission of their father. Little did he know that that was his last party and indeed it was a farewell service. He was killed in cold blood.
The end.
……..
The story sounds familiar right? And you sure know where I got it from particularly if you are conversant with your Bible. The young man in question is called Amnon. The half-sister he raped was called Tammar. The cousin who advised him was called Jonadad and the brother that killed him is Absalom. His father is David, the King.
Even though I added my own twists and turns, the story is true and I believe you have learnt one or two lessons. Be careful what you call love and whenever you feel that you are in love, make sure you use your head also because sometimes or most times our feelings lie to us.
Another important lesson in this story is that, be very careful who you call friends. Jonadad really messed up his friend’s whole life with that single advice. Who is advising you? Who is feeding you and giving you counsel on a serious matter. Be very careful.

If you noticed very carefully, I introduced another character who advised him in a godly way but he rejected the counsel to his own destruction. I pray that in the days of your confusion and frustration on the issues of life, sound counsel will knock at your door.
