The Political Temperature Is Heating Up in Nigeria

The most populated country on the African continent is going to the polls once again as General Buhari’s government tenure comes to an end next year.

The temperature is heightening as the master gladiators are grouping and regrouping their arsenals in an election that promises to go down in history as one of the most crucial elections of all times since the return to constitution rule in 1999.

The polls which have always been a showdown between two titans seems to be threatened by a third force this time round.

Though there are about 17 candidates feverishly preparing to take power in 2023, three has taken the center stage in the political discourse on social media, television and in homes.

The All-Progressives Congress (APC) led by Bola Armed Tinubu happens to be the incumbent party in government. He has high chances having built solid structures over the years.

Bola Armed Tinubu is the former governor of Lagos state (1999-2007). Today, Lagos State economy is bigger than most African countries, an achievement his support base credit to his vision. They are therefore doing everything to take power come February 2023.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is led by former vice president Atiku Abubakr. He is not new in the race having contested in 2019 and has sought to be president of Nigeria since 1999. The PDP is the second biggest political group that promises to give the APC a good run for their money.

The third force factor in the Nigerian political space is Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party. He was the former governor of Anambra state for eight years.  He is credited for the positive changes that happened in the state in areas of Education, Security and Welfare of the People.

His vision of moving Nigeria from consumption to production is becoming a mantra in homes and hopes are high of his chances in this forth coming election.

His popularity is growing steadily. It promises to be a clash of the super powers that-be in the political architecture of Nigeria.

Nigeria is a strategic nation in the African Continent. Without sounding hyperbolic, Africa will move forward if Nigeria gets it right.

We therefore need to pray for Nigeria and wish them well.

At the end, may Nigeria work and may it benefit the entire African Continent.
