Tracking Down Annahs Azuree- part 7

“Look guys, we can talk about this thing quietly before we get to the station. Mention any amount and I bet you I will not negotiate,” Yaovi tried wooing the officers from Interpol.

“We are not buyable. I’ve been in this job for 30 good years.”

“Let me just let you know that you have come to the end of the road. I pity you,” the second officer added.

“When you guys see officers, you suddenly think they are hungry people, Right?”

Meanwhile, Annahs Azuree was planning to leave for Cotonou when he had a text message from his team. It read, ‘use the beach road when you get to the Benin border at the Togo side.

When you finally get into Togo, whichever way possible, enter Ghana through the Wli Afegame border.”

“We know it sounds crazy but just follow the plan. All the southern borders have been captured by our opponents”

“Eii! Wli Afegame? This is ridiculous!”

“For the first time, I may have to disobey my guys. If I were to be continuing to my hometown, Kpassa, it would have made sense.”

At the station, Interpol had already decided that Yaovi should be sent to Ghana on the next available flight so he could be tried in Ghana.

Commander Carlos, aware of this development had already leaked the information to Yoavi’s men. Not only that, but he has also decided to use the same tactic so that Yaovi could escape at the airport immediately after touching down.

The beach way at the Benin Border entering Togo is a well-known route. My major problem now is entering Ghana through Wli. I will have to buy some cutlasses in Coutonou.

The day sergeant Wiredu was slated to testify before the committee, commander Carlos sent him on another operation in the Eastern Region with a disguised motive that he was one of the best men he had. The operation was to last for four days. Since he was also aware of Yaovi’s arrival in two days he wanted to keep him off the stage so they could have a smooth ride.

“Alhaji, what I am doing for you guys is very risky. When your man arrives at the airport, I will rescue him for you. I also promise that on his next trip, I will personally block all chances for those small boys at the airport so that he can carry the thing safely to his destination.”

“But one more thing, this time round, don’t give me any cash. The way the IGP’s eye is on me, let’s not risk anything. Just buy me two houses in Trasaco estate.”

“Consider it done but do the work first.”Money for hand, back for ground Alhaji assured him”

When Annahs got to the border, he carried the cutlasses on his shoulder purporting to be a cutlass seller. So like a sales boy, he managed to cross into Togo through the beach way.

There were only two passengers left when he arrived at the station. Two Nigerian Igbo boys going to Ghana.

“We have one more to go. Are you guys not late? Why don’t you guys agree so we share the cost of the last seat so we get to Lome on time?” Annahs requested.

After communicating in Igbo, to the confusion of Annahs, they agreed.

“Are you going to Ghana for the first time?” he asked the young men.

“Ah! no ooo. For the past five years, we have operated a book and grocery shop in Accra.”

“Our younger sister just got married and as custom demands, we had to be there.”

“So when did you leave Ghana for Nigeria?”

“Just last week,” they told him.

“And you won’t stay there small?”

“Orga, business is our blood wire.”

“So how is Ghana? ” “Since  you guys left just last week, you’ll be abreast with current  issues.”

“Everything is okay. These days on the news, the police have been talking tough on issues of public interest.”

“There is this cocaine issue that has refused to die down. The lead  independent investigator, one Annahs Azuree, who they believe has been a thorn in the flesh of the barons is even feared dead.”

“Really? I also heard about it but I didn’t know it has become that serious.”

“Very serious ooo Sir, but wetin concern cat plus grass? We dey mind our business.”

To the surprise of the two brothers, Annahs decided to alight at a small taxi terminal that takes people to the big market popularly known as Ashigame.

“We thought you will follow us to cross the Aflao border.” They exchanged contact and before the taxi left he told them to save his name as Ghana man.

Azuree went to the big market for two reasons. One was to resell his cutlass and the second was to take an available vehicle to Kpalime where he could get a  direct vehicle to Wli.

At the blind side of commander Carlos, Sergeant Wiredu had given a tip-off to the IGP about his unit heads operations.

So unknown to Commander Carlos, the IGP had secretly deployed another team to monitor events of Yoavi’s arrival at the airport.

As expected, the unknown gunmen overpowered the authorized police that commander Carlos sent.

This was when the men sent by the IGP decided to chase down Commander Carlos’ operatives.

There was a clash with heavy gunshot exchanges. It was so bad that the police lost one man while the other group lost four men.

Yaovi who was in the custody of the unknown gunmen, sustained serious injuries. He was later rushed to the nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
