When you do your homework well, you will go home well

Anybody who has ever walked through the walls of a school system has ever come across the word Homework.

The other day I sat down to reflect about the word homework and I was amazed about the inspiration I had from this old technique the school system has used for centuries.

With a little twist to the real meaning of the word let me share with you some lessons.

The origin of Homework dates back to the first century in Rome when it was used as a strategy to help students in oratory and public speaking. With time it became popular in other parts of the world.

It has taken a center stage in major education reforms of most Nations of the world. All through the years, there has been a lot of arguments for and against the practice of homework in schools and colleges. As the debate continues, the fact still remains that the practice will not die down in schools.

So having read a bit about Homework, I want to zero in on how it relates to your purpose and assignment.

I will liken homework to the responsibility that everybody has to discover his place in life. It is your homework to discover your place as far as career, ministry or service to God and humanity is concerned.

The good thing about every homework is that you can seek assistance. So, as far as your assignment discovery is concerned, you need not struggle alone.

First, God is interested in helping you if you are interested in drawing closer to him. It is written: draw near to me and I will draw near to you (James 4:8). So you see, the first assistance you need in this homework is God. Don’t struggle with your homework; let him help you as you seek his face.

The second level of assistance you need is close friends and mentors. You can take this homework to people of like minds to help you with it. Believe me, you shall not be punished.

Is it not written that as iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend?( Prov 27:17). Allow someone to guide you. The second concept I want to liken the homework to is that ‘assignment’ you have to work on until it starts producing results.

Just like the case where the teacher rewards you on how well do did your homework, God and man will also reward you on how well your assignment is helping people and solving problems.

So, there is a need to work on your homework (purpose) well, so that it begins to impact your sphere of influence. Also, I likened going home with your homework to developing your homework until it shines to give light to others.

This is by far the hardest part of the homework. Until this is properly done, your shine will not be striking enough. This is why teachers take time to reward students who do their homework well.

In the fulfilment of your purpose, you dare not miss the preparatory stage. It is a stage of learning. It is a stage of constant practice. When this is done with the assistance of mentors, books and ultimately God’s grace, your profiting starts to appear to all. (1 Timo 4:15)

This is why I said if your homework is well done, you will go home well. Just like in school, when your homework receives praise, you go home with applauds and smiles. When your purpose is well sharpened, you shall not disappoint in the day of battle. You will not disappoint in the day of your manifestation.

Let me encourage you… maybe there is a homework ( assignment, purpose, career choice) you are struggling with today; Don’t Give Up! As long as you are sure your homework was given by God, get busy honing and developing it. It will shine and blossom.

It will touch lives and make your maker proud of you. You will go home well. Not just your material or earthly home but also your eternal home. That is when God will say, come into my rest, you good and faithful servant (Matt 25: 23)
