Azumah Akpe’s Unusual Movement to Agbozume Brazilians

One of the skillful players we had in those days at Wisdom School was my cousin, Azumah Akpe. Apart from being our English teacher in the Future Leaders Study Group we set up ourselves, his other passion was football.

Akpe loved football and took his appetite for the game to another level by joining Agbozume Bombers, one of the town teams in those days. As usual, since I was good at watching, I followed them for their training and some of their matches.

One of the matches I remember vividly was between Agbozume Brazilians and Agbozume Bombers. This match took place at the E.P. Park, and as usual, I was there with my goggles to watch.

The match was tough for Bombers, and in the end, it was a total defeat (4-1). They could not “bomb” the Brazilians as their name suggested. Despite the defeat, there was one player who stood tall in the Bombers

Unknown to the Bombers management, Coach Agaza of Agbozume Brazilians spotted the young talent. After the match, I personally heard him praising Akpe to his team.

By the next match, which was to take place at the National School Park, Agaza had moved my cousin to his team. This was the swiftest transfer I have ever seen in football history. Akpe played against his own Bombers in the next fixture as a full member of Agbozume Brazilians.

This was how Coach Agaza poached Akpe from Bombers to Brazilians in the twinkle of an eye.

As I recollect these events, I receive some wisdom, and that is:

1. Be at your best, and people will look for you.
2. You may never know your season of lifting, so always give your best.
