JUST GIVE ME 62 CEDIS

As I sat down and waited for my turn to fix my bike, a conversation ensued between the repairer and another customer on the issues relating to young people and work.

They both lamented about the nonchalant attitude of young people these days as it relates to learning a trade or having a skill. They mentioned basic jobs that are dying gradually all because young people are no more interested in them. Jobs like carpentry, electrical works, blacksmithing and mechanic works etc.

It was at this point that the repairer narrated an incident that occurred years back. As a professional eavesdropper with accreditation from Pastor Godfred Ofori, who is the chief of all eavesdroppers worldwide, I listened with close attention.

Once upon a time, he got a young man in their neighborhood who wanted to learn motto mechanical works. The only fee he wanted him to pay was 62 cedis . To his amazement, the young man did not budge. He saw it as nothing. He despised the help he wanted to render him.

Its over 5 years now, and the young man is still in town, doing Okada business.

As they spoke, one thing became clear, the youth of today don’t want anything that will delay. They want it now, quick and fast.

This is the danger of instant gratification. It may pay you immediately but delay you in the long run.

Young people have to learn this. It has to be reintroduced in our churches and schools for the betterment of society.

No society can ever develop if the youth in that society don’t want to pay any price. Things are not done that way.

To every young person reading  this: don’t fall for instant things, they don’t last at all. Go through the process, and you will have a story to tell.

Today, that young man is getting quick money from carrying people from one place to another because riding a motorcycle is easier than learning a trade.

He will even start pitying the man who wanted to teach him because he thinks that he is making cool money every day. Not knowing that it is skills that endure for a long time and not quick fix and instant gratification.

Do not go for quick fix. Go through the process, and you will be great.
