The great consequence

One of the greatest words that needs to be nailed in the heart of every mortal man particularly young people is the CONSEQUENCE.

It’s one of the words that has a free fall on the life of every man when its course has been effectively executed. What is the meaning of that? It means whenever a cause or an action has been carried out, the consequence is inevitable.

We live in a society that seem not to understand the consequence aspect of the equation. We are quick to initiate, fast to make decisions but have refused to understand that NO ACTION IS DEVOID OF A CONSEQUENCE.

Society is decaying today because we have not properly sat down to see this side of life. Every aspect of life can be viewed with this lens. Every situation we face is in the context of this word.

Our families, our churches, our children and our own lives dance to the tune of this word called Consequence.

There are two events that happened in times past that still leaves me speechless. I shudder anytime I read it.

This young lady was the only daughter in the family of many sons. The brothers had gone to work and for one reason or the other, she told the dad that she wanted to visit some friends of hers in town.

As to whether the father restricted her, I can’t tell but she went anyway to just chit chat with her friends.

The great consequence

Going to her friends, she met this young man who has been eyeing for some time. He invited her over into his chamber to have a chat with her.

One thing leading to the other, the only report the father received was that the daughter has been raped by this young man who happens to be the son of a prominent person in the town.

This singular act of this young man brought the entire township to ruin. After a cunning peace deal, two sons of the old man (the girl’s brothers) went to the town and killed every male. Yes! The deal was every male in that town was to be circumcised. This was the only condition under which they will allow their sister to marry the young man who raped her. They obeyed and in the midst of the pain of circumcision, the GREAT CONSEQUENCE took place…… the destruction of an entire community because of a young girl who did not stay at home.

The second story is about a young man who was recruited into the army of his nation. Before they went on this particular military assignment, they were strictly warned not to take even a thread from the enemies’ camp. They were told to focus on the work and not crave for any delicacy from the enemies’ camp.

Unfortunately for the entire army, they lost the battle. What made it even more surprising was that the army they fought was just a tiny group of people without any special combat skills to withstand them, yet they lost to battle.

The great consequence

What is this? Why this defeat? The leader decided to inquire from God the reason for their calamity, the reason for this great Consequence. Lo and behold, it was discovered that, one of the young officers took some items for himself while the attack was on-going.

Wow! He deserved death because of this act that has brought havoc to the camp. Not only did he not enjoy his booty, but he was also put to death together with his entire household, to the point that even his animals received the penalty – the great Consequence.

These two stories send shivers down my spine, I tell you most honestly.

You see my friend; every action has a Consequence. No decision goes without a cost element. Whether small or great, there is a Consequence. The things you are doing today have future ramifications.

Do you have children? Teach them this principle. Let them know from now that every action will attract a consequence.

Do you have teenagers around you? Nail this deep into their skull and heart.

What you do in your thirties and forties will definitely affect your sixties and seventies.

There is a consequence….. To disbelief this is to live in delusions all the days of your life.
