Life has a way of paying everybody with their own coin.

The death of Yaovi came as a shock to both friends and foes. Having used his ill-gotten money to create solid contacts all over the country, the news of his death spread like wildfire.

Commander  Carlos, knowing very well that the table will turn against him, called Alhaji to brief him on the alternatives he has as far as the business was concerned.

Information gathered from the luggage of  Yaovi pinned down Commander Carlos as one of his accomplices. It did not take too long for the Police Service to come to this conclusion having seen many text messages exchanged between the duo.

Commander Carlos knew that this was a bad case. Meanwhile, time seemed not to be on his side.

“Should I run away?” He taught to himself. “Run to where? I will get a good lawyer if need be. It’s a matter of proving my case.”

Annahs arrived at Kpalime, one of the major towns in the middle belt of Togo. Unfortunately, he had to take another car to Adeta, which was the only way he could get a Wli Afegame-bound vehicle.

“This life no balance oo. I hope nobody recognizes me here. ” Annahs said to himself under his breadth.

“This Yaovi guy will rot in jail. You can’t hold a whole nation to ransom and punish me like this. I have become like a fugitive just because I want justice to be done.”

When he finished talking to himself, he realized that one of his phones was missing. This phone had a sim card with his mobile money. There was little information on it but this particular sim card had sufficient money to at least take him to Accra.

“What am I going to do now? Chai! Problem no dey finish for this life. My God, only you are good but this life ‘dieee  ino’ balance at all. Life is not fair,” he mused.

“What will I do when I get to Hohoe, now?”

With his thoughts all muddled up, he played several scenarios in his head.

“Should I beg?”

“To beg  might mean I have to reveal some bits of my identity.”

“What of texting my guys so they send me money through a vendor.”

“No! that could be suicidal.”

” I will surely have an idea when I get to Hohoe.”

The families of Yaovi received the demise of Yaovi with mixed feelings.

A few of the family members who had some bits and pieces of information about the shady dealings of their brother were not surprised.

But the larger family unit who were in the dark saw this as a bad omen and a drawback for the family.

It became too much of a shame when the Interior Minister gave a press conference to tell the whole country of developments concerning the case and Yaovi’s death.

“Fellow Ghanaians, as it is often said: evil has a bitter end. If I want to go a little biblical, I’d say, the salary for sin is death.”

“You are all aware of the development that took place a few days ago. There is a need to bring clarity to the general public and to correct some misinformation the public is being fed with.”

It is true that Yaovi, the baron suffered a gunshot injury during the exchange between the police service and those sent to take him by force. It is equally true that he passed away  few minutes after reaching the hospital.”

“However, I want to clarify that the police did not intentionally eliminate him. Why do such a thing when we are at the brink of our investigations?”

“The truth of the matter is that his death is a loss to us. A loss because there are vital pieces of information that we thought  we could have fished out from him.”

“The public should also be aware that we have established the fact about the cross-section of the police involvement in the syndicate. This is a big blow to the Police Service and I believe that the IGP is taking steps to give a statement in that regard. The ring leader will be named, shamed, and jailed when found guilty in a competent court of jurisdiction.”

“This syndicate is a whole network of well-connected people. Is not every information we can share here. I can only assure you that we will get them all.”

“Annahs Azuree, the investigative journalist has still not been cited. The last time we heard about him, interpol told us about his entry into Nigeria.”

“We were also reliably informed that he was the one who gave the tip-off about Yaovi’s arrest.”

“I will leave it there. I am reliably informed that his enemies are more than the sea so I need to be cautious.”

“Finally, evil against the state is evil against every well-meaning Ghanaian. It’s sad he died but what can we do? His body will be released to his family after further probes. ”

“I have this advice for all of us particularly the youth: there is dignity in work and always remember that a good name is better than money.”

“Thank you and God bless you all.”

It was around 3 pm when the vehicle got to the Wli Afegame border. Crossing to the Ghana side was quite easy for him. With the little French at his disposal, he mumbled a few lines and they made him pass through.

As for the immigration personnel at post on the Ghana side, the trending story he was reading in the Daily Graphic kept him busy so there was no issue sailing through the border.

“How much is the fare to Hohoe?“ he asked the driver who was waiting for one more passenger to leave.

“15 ghana cedis, boss,” the driver answered.

Thankfully, that was the last money he had on him.

“Please let’s go,” he told the driver.
