Why God sometimes gives us what we don’t ask for……..Seth Agbeli Kunkpe
There are many things you have that you did not specifically ask God for. By His providence, He grants us blessings that we can’t always pinpoint when we requested them. The Lord is gracious to us, and we should be very grateful.
From my study, I’ve concluded that while God does not answer every prayer, He is capable of giving us what we didn’t even ask for. Yes, He can bless us beyond our requests.
A notable example is King Solomon’s prayer. After his father’s death, there were high expectations for him to do well and uphold the throne’s honor.
When the Lord appeared to Solomon after his sacrifice and gave him a chance to ask for anything, Solomon made one simple request:
1 Kings 3:9 (NIV):
“So, give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
And God responded:
Why God sometimes gives us what we don’t ask for.

1 Kings 3:11 (NIV):
“So God said to him, ‘Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice…'”
Notice what Solomon did not ask for: long life, wealth for himself, and the death of his enemies.
Then the Lord continued:
1 Kings 3:13 (NIV):
“Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.”
Based on this, I encourage you to expect the Lord to give you what you haven’t asked for by focusing on what is important to Him.
In every situation, seek to understand what the Lord desires from you and what He values most.
God wants His children to have discerning hearts full of wisdom. When you ask for things that benefit His people, He takes a special interest.
In conclusion, King Solomon’s request was selfless, and the Lord blessed him with more than he asked for. Go ahead and ask for the very things that promote his kingdom and make him enthroned in the heart of men and he will take care of you.
May the Lord help us all in Jesus’ name.
For the love of God, society, and young people.
Blessings.
