At Last, in the Morning
You can choose to disbelief this story but it happened.
‘Once upon a time there lived a strong and dutiful young man. He had just run away from this twin brother who threatened to kill him because of matters relating to birthright and its accompanying packages.
The feud was so sharp that the mother advised him to go to her family far from their area. He took his mother’s advice and left. When he got there his uncle happily received him and before long, he started helping his uncle tend his sheep.
Like every young man will do when he sees a beautiful ‘flower’, he started taking a closer look at one of the uncle’s girls. As time went on his interest grew. One fateful day his uncle asked him what he would want as a reward for working for him.
As if he was already waiting for that question, he did not hesitate to tell his uncle that he will serve him seven years to marry his daughter (this was a time when their custom saw nothing wrong with marrying close relations).
His uncle agreed and he started working to get this fine lady. Amazingly, as if more strength was supplied for him from God knows where the seven years came like days. In all these years he did not have sex with the lady because he feared God and wanted to obey the customs of the land.

Then came D-day. The whole community gathered for the ceremony. It was a great day. At last, my labor will not be in vain. The wife of my youth will be handed to me, he thought to himself.
The ceremony went into the late evening. It was getting dark when they finally ended. According to the custom of the land, the woman had to bring his wife to him later that night for the consummation of the marriage.
Out of excitement, passion, and anxiety, when the women arrived he did not waste time on the exchange of pleasantries before he dispatched them.
Oh! what a night it was. Fulfilling his sexual vow to a woman he had labored for seven years just to have. He fell asleep immediately after the ‘encounter’. Rightly so, as the ceremony of the day and the ‘ceremony’ of the night had taken their toll on him.
At last, in the morning, when the sun rays penetrated the thin veils on the window, with the head of the young damsel still beautifully laid on his chest, he thought to himself: am I dreaming?
He got up in frenzy to see whether what he was seeing was real or a dream. Indeed, it was real. Unknown to him, his choice was substituted. The woman presented to him in the dead of the night was actually the elder sister of the lady he so much wanted.

“I deserve an explanation!” he blurted out in fury. “Go and ask my dad”, the lady said. I owe you no explanations. Without blinking, he dashed out of the room in fury.
“What have I done”, he thought to himself as he approached the tent of his in-law. “My in-law is a very crooked man. What will I do now? My mother must hear this……..”
Thank you for reading this piece. If you are conversant with your Bible, this story will be very familiar to you. Though I have added my own twist and turns the storyline remains the same.
I have intentionally left out the names of the people. You can share with me in the comment section if you know them.

The lesson in this story is simple but very instructive.
The first is the power of patience. The young man waited for seven hard years. So it is not as if he was not patient. However, on that fateful day, I don’t actually know why he couldn’t have just a little more patience.
Please be patient with life and circumstances so you will not be short-changed. Just a little more patience.
Secondly, don’t make decisions in the dark. Don’t make choices without understanding. Don’t bargain without light. At last, in the morning, when the light was sufficient, he realized that this is not what he paid for.
Remember that Jesus possesses that great light that can take you from obscurity. In him was light and that light was the light of men. When you follow him and abide in him, you shall not be in DARKNESS.
For the love of God, society, and young people
