Nucy’s Dairy: CHOICES
Nucy’s Dairy: Choices.
So, I saw a young, cute girl, today. Guess where? At a wedding. What attracted me to her was her beautiful long lashes and her well-curved and shaped eyebrows – no mascara, no makeup but an absolutely gorgeous natural look.
The irony however was this; she was garbed in a shabby, torn dress paired with slightly oversized white slippers, which looked like they had seen better days.
The outfit conspicuously was out of place even as it drew a sharp dichotomy between her and the other guests who were magnificently and fashionably dressed in arrays of rich fabrics of all sorts.
It was a wedding of course, and we all know that guests these days like to dress to the nines to even outshine the bride. I sat there wondering and trying to take a peek into her thoughts.

I sure know she might be feeling pretty uncomfortable, but then, she might have braved the odds to attend the ceremony in the first place so she might as well enjoy it.
As fate would have it, she was not alone. She had with her a young child, a boy of about one and a half years, who bore a striking resemblance to her. I could only conclude that she was the mother. The young mother herself might have been between the ages of fifteen and seventeen years; no more.
During the service, the child troubled her a bit, a phenomenon all mothers are familiar with. Sometimes, you just might not know what the little ‘brats’ want, and that exactly, was her dilemma too.
The child was at one time on her back, tied with a cloth but before I could say jack, the little boy had landed on the cream-tiled floor of the church auditorium, crying.

She probably felt bad for dropping him abruptly, so she carried him on her laps, trying to coax him to quiet down. The child defied her efforts and kept crying anyway, and in her frustration, she dropped him back on the floor, until another child, perhaps, a sister or acquaintance of hers had mercy and came in to take the poor, pathetic child away.

To my amazement and chagrin, the young, premature mother did not bother following up. I could only see plain relief written all over her face as if she had all of sudden been rescued from a bothersome nemesis.
The young girl was frustrated, pure and simple. I could literally feel frustration oozing off her as I sat, observing her from my spot not too far from her seat. You could tell by her posturing, as she sat on the pristine white chair, in her faded purple-coloured and partially torn dress.
Even though I could empathize with her situation, bearing in mind that she might be a clueless teenager who knows next to nothing about motherhood. I must say without mincing words that motherhood is challenging and is sure not a task for kids. It’s for adults who are prepared for it. Even then, it can sometimes be a daunting task.
I must confess that I did not follow up on her. Initially, I had planned to engage her in a conversation after the ceremony but the excitement and numerous activities took my attention away from her.
Nucy’s Dairy: Choices.
Upon second thought, I would have loved to have the opportunity to have a chat with her. I would have heard her story. Perhaps, I would have been in a position to somewhat help her. Alas, I lost the opportunity to make a difference in her life.
As an educator, I am beginning to lose count of the many young girls nowadays who get pregnant. Those who have aborted pregnancies, or have braced the odds to have the baby.
I can only imagine how miserable their lives become all of a sudden because they dared to eat the ‘forbidden fruit’. Most of these girls are battling with life. They live every day with regrets and psychological trauma of various forms but cannot say it because mostly, they have no one to talk to.

Society judges them harshly, but wait a minute; what is society doing to bring down such incidence?
One thing that I know is that, society is rather encouraging subtly, lewd behaviour in its various forms. Certain immoral acts are no longer frowned upon while those in the medical profession are preaching family planning methods to our children day in and day out. Of course, the mantra is: “if you can’t abstain, then protect yourself”.
Nucy’s Dairy: Choices.
Yes, I do understand perfectly the dilemma most of them find themselves in. They are just doing their job and so I can’t fault them too much. But then, it just seems that gradually, the issue of abstinence has just been swept under the carpet.
I know for a fact that they also know for a fact that what they preach is not a panacea for the problem but only a way of managing what has become an almost unmanageable canker in our society.
The situation is becoming worse by the day even with protection being preached day and night. And this is not the way to go. I would leave the rest for another day.
Well, I do hope a young person, especially a girl reading this might just take a cue and abstain from sex until she becomes a responsibly married adult. Abstinence still remains the best option even if others think otherwise.
Take it from someone who has been there and knows so many other young adults who have been there too. Abstinence is not archaic. My take.
Affectionately yours,
Nucy

All Because of Kisi: Appetite or Accident? A Costly Chase for Bush Meat
It’s a sad phenomenon, especially when the church joined forces with the world to crucify the young adult or teenager who gave birth out of wedlock no matter the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy and they hold in high esteem those who have aborted severally and are rooted in immorality…. I don’t really blame them that much because the only evidence of sex on a lady of reproductive age is pregnancy until then, they are Angels.
wow wow wow. blessings my sister. we appreciate your comment
Thanks my dear. Of course, it is time for the church to change its approach in dealing with such matters. Afterall, the deed has been done. It’s now time for damage control.
Great write up.
thanks. together we can make that change
Wow. Such an inspiring and apt write up. The exact thing we need to inculcate into our young people. Abstinence is indeed the right way.
thanks for adding your voice. we appreciate you
What a society that endorses sexual promiscuity fails to do most of the time is to let us know is that: being sexually active especially at a very young age is a Pandora box or maybe a trojan horse
Very insightful, thanks ma’am and
God bless you.
I want to congratulate my sister for the wonderful write up and I really support her abstinence is the best way to go, but you see it is not just enough to tell our teenagers to abstain and think it will work
We really need to understand their needs and sexual desires and constantly help them to control themselves such that they can prevent unintended pregnancies
And we parents as well needs to learn how to educate our precious daughters on sexual feelings and how to control them so they don’t get deceived by their peers since majority of them are being misled by their peers when it comes to sexual desires, yet parents find it difficult to talk about sexual issues with their daughters.
It is not only nurses who are supposed to talk about it.
The children belongs to us and I’ll urge us to learn how to start educating them first.
Those of us who don’t know how to go about it can visit the health facilities for counseling as well as our teachers so that we can all be preceptors for our little girls before they get deceived by their peers or other people who lure them into premarital sex.
Lastly those of us who are christians should encourage our girls to part take in church activities that would engage them as well as praying for them.
And together we achieve the abstinence is the best
My take
Than you
thanks so much. much love
you have made very thoughtful points
we hope to use our writings to solve these issues
