I want to uncover his feet-(can she Propose?)
I bring you glad tidings and hope you are doing well. Today’s topic might seem a bit awkward, but it’s important to address. My aim is to shed light on this subject and hopefully provide some clarity.
In many societies, there’s a common standard regarding marriage proposals: men traditionally propose to women. Historically, it has been widely accepted that the man asks for the woman’s hand in marriage. After her acceptance, the man is expected to pay the dowry or bride price, leading to their marriage.
Typically, the woman takes the man’s name, and their children bear his name as well. The man is regarded as the head of the family and is expected to provide for them.
However, society has changed. Today, women are equally involved in providing for their families, sometimes even excelling beyond their male counterparts in various fields. Despite these changes, I am not suggesting that women should start proposing to men.
In fact, many women still view it as a form of pride and respect when a man pursues them and asks for their hand in marriage. Men, too, see it as a responsibility to propose to a woman they love and believe can take care of them in the home.

What I want to convey is that there are times when women might see potential in a relationship before men do. A great example is the story of Boaz, Naomi, and Ruth from the Bible. Naomi skillfully guided her daughter-in-law Ruth on how to present herself to Boaz in a manner worthy of marriage. Ruth didn’t demand marriage from Boaz; instead, she followed Naomi’s wise counsel on how to subtly indicate her availability.
Sometimes, men fail to make the necessary moves due to fear or lack of courage, even if they appreciate and value a woman. This is where women can take a subtle approach to show their interest. The book of Ruth is rich with lessons, particularly about the dignity of Boaz and Naomi’s wisdom. Naomi didn’t force the marriage but took steps to ensure Boaz was aware of Ruth’s availability.

For women interested in a man who might be too shy or hesitant to propose, here’s my advice: don’t rush or push for marriage. Befriend him and make your values known. Display your kindness, openness, sincerity, and purity. These qualities can encourage a man to take action.
One mistake many young women make is giving their bodies to men who are afraid to propose. Unfortunately, this often leads to being used and discarded. A man of class and integrity will value a woman who shows her worth and makes herself visible without compromising her values.
Ruth didn’t verbally propose to Boaz. She uncovered his feet and lay at his feet, a symbolic act that Boaz understood. He took the necessary steps, and she became his wife.
My sisters, let your values shine brightly. Give subtle hints to show you are available. Ultimately, remember that God is interested in your marriage. There’s no need to force yourself on a man. Prayerfully consider him, be sure he is interested, and if necessary, use respectable intermediaries to convey your interest.
These days, we have many women who are excellent candidates for marriage. Unfortunately, the young men who should marry them either aren’t good matches or are too afraid to take the next step, for reasons known only to them.
My sisters, prayerfully consider these men. Uncover their feet—show your interest genuinely and with pride. The Lord is with you.
I rest my pen and see you in the next article.
For the love of God, society, and young people,
Blessings.
