Bovi the Comedian: How Books Changed His Perspectives about Life
If you think stand-up comedians are just jokers who don’t have any work to do, you need to rethink that assertion. The more I observe what comedians do the more I realize that there is more to them making people laugh.
In recent times, I have concluded that comedians are one of the most serious and intentional human beings you can meet in life. I say this with every sense of responsibility, having taken my time to read between the lines of what they do and listen to interviews they have granted.
One of those interviews I chanced upon was the one Chude Jideonwo had with Abovi Ogboma.
The truth of the matter is that I don’t listen to every type of comedy. I have listened to Bovi’s stand-up comedy may be only once.
However, I have realized with time that it is easier to mistake these gentlemen for clowns but that will be a terrible mistake to make. Comedy is their profession, and they do it passionately, leaving no stone unturned.
In this interview, I was really surprised at this gentleman’s perspectives on life. Though the things he was saying were not new to me, I was blown away by the passion with which he said them and the meaning he made out of them.
He finally let the cat out of the bag when Chude asked him how he came to his findings about life and relating with people.

Bovi the Comedian: How Books Changed His Perspectives about Life
That was when spoke about books. According to him, he had to study some books he came across, which really changed his perceptions and made him see life differently.
From a casual listening, I could immediately mention about 5 life principles he got from reading good books
- The biggest service you can do to yourself is to push yourself. On this, he emphasized the fact that even though people can help you, they can only do it to the degree of their understanding. If you don’t wake up and take the bull by the horn you can’t achieve much and you can’t break barriers.
- Taking responsibility for your actions. He hammered this countless times during the interview. Nobody will be responsible for you.
- Life is about the choices you make and the ability to make a choice and stand by it is crucial.
- You cannot make another person responsible for your happiness.
- People will only help you to the degree of their understanding of life
Like I said earlier, these life principles are not new, but I just felt listening to these comedians off-stage is a whole new area I want to focus on. I see lots of wisdom when they speak.
I celebrate Abovi Ogboma (Bovi) for those words and I wish him well in Life.
