Understanding the Concept Of Seed Sowing Pt 1: Rev Seth A. Kunkpe

The Seed Sowing Concept in our world today, especially among charismatics, is mostly about giving a valuable possession to someone, especially to a person capable of releasing a blessing on you. There is nothing wrong with this practice if it’s done with understanding and not done to the destruction and frustration of the doer.

Even though it has been too much stretched to the limit in some circles, to the extent that it has lost its essence, seed sowing can be a game changer if understood with a deeper meaning.

So, I have had two experiences that leave me in awe as far as this is concerned.

One of them happened about three years ago. One of my mentees told me of his desire to sow some beans seed, and he wanted me to help him.

At that same time, I also wanted to do some beans farming. I can’t remember whether I actually gave him the seed or money to buy the seed, but the bottom line is that I gave him some assistance, and he went to plant the beans seed.

Later, I got some weedicide to control weeds in my beans farm. He came again and requested assistance in controlling weeds on his farm, so I gave him the rest of my weedicide.

After some time, I realized that my farm did not do as well as I wanted . I couldn’t overpower the weeds, and my harvest was nothing to write home about.

A few months later, he came to visit me, and to my amazement, he brought a lot of beans just to say thank you. Apparently, his farm succeeded, though his was smaller compared to mine.

Since he knew where he got the assistance, he came to appreciate me. My family did justice to the beans for some time before it finished.

Another example happened at the beginning of this year’s planting season . Another mentee wanted some maize seed to sow, so I invited him over. I gave him the liberty to pick as many as he wanted. Because the life principle of sowing and harvesting works when done well, the land did not give up on him. He also brought fresh maize for me to eat and he has not stopped thanking me for how much good my seeds did to him.

So, in both cases, I sowed/gave seeds, and they went and planted those seeds, and the result was obvious.

Where am I going with all this? You see, seed sowing should be seen not only in the context of giving money to another person. The first understanding of seed is that we should be planting the little opportunity, ability, potential, and resources through work and hoping that eventually, there will be results. This is the underlying concept behind seed sowing.

What is my point. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 11:6-10

Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening, let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.

In most charismatic circles, the only understanding we are exposed to is to continue giving because you don’t know the day rewards will come. Respectfully speaking, we limit people when this is all we can see in this HOLY VERSE. God will bless the giver, no doubt, but I believe sometimes we do a disservice to scripture when it is taught in a half-truth manner.

That scripture first is about work and diligence. I agree that it could apply to giving in church, but we do a great disservice to people if that is the only understanding we want them to get.

That scripture is a life principle handed over to us.

If you look at it contextually, it starts by saying, he who observes the wind will not sow.

As agrarians as they were, God was trying to use their work to relate to them. If you want every condition to be favorable before you act on your plans, you will go hungry at the end of the day, so keep planting at every season. Keep working, keep working, keep giving, and keep investing.

My brothers and sisters, I believe in seed sowing as a principle, so don’t get me wrong. People have blessed me with seeds, and I know how those seeds have blessed me, but my point is, let’s go beyond just receiving money or giving money. Let also sow seeds of kindness, love, gratitude, thanksgiving, and mercy. Let’s sow these seeds into the lives of other people. When we do it well, it will grow bountifully.

I hope I have spoken some sense. Keep sowing seeds. Sow seeds to the small, to the great. Sow seeds into the soil (the most concrete evidence), into your work, potentials and you will see how it will bring blessings your way in due season.

No wonder the Bible says in

Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Always remember, just as you don’t plant crops today and expect harvest next week, your seeds will take time. Even though God is a miracle worker, you have to understand that miracles are not the ground rules of operation. Things take time!

A lot of people are in pain and frustration today because they were promised instant miracles after they give. Life principles take time!

Keep planting! Keep sowing!
