You could feel a sense of sadness and loss at the Family House of Yaovi in Golo Kwati, near Hohoe. His mother who had warned him occasionally about his lifestyle sat at a distance as the family head and his elders arrived to plan his funeral.
“Agoo! This is a tragedy for the family,” he began. “The last time I saw Yaovi was when he came for our late chief’s funeral.” “It’s sad it ended this way.” “For now, all I will say is this: if you think you have never sinned, throw the first stone.” The grounds had become as dead silent as a cemetery. No one dared to speak nor even murmur.
The funeral Banner was then hoisted at the gate of the family house, situated by the roadside. After the last meeting, the date for the funeral was set.
The family decided to go low-key on the funeral. Alhaji and his team upon hearing the date were planning to attend but changed their minds based on Intel’s received that there may be a heavy police presence at the grounds. Alhaji decided not to risk it by showing up.
“Let’s just send some money after the burial, to his parents,” he said to his teammates. Azureh, upon reaching the outskirts of Hohoe, heard a discussion on a blood donation exercise that was to take place in a week’s time in Hohoe.
Officials of the Regional Hospital in Hohoe were on air sensitizing the general public about the need to donate blood to save lives. The host of the program asked if blood could be donated for commercial gain.

The official said it was possible but a lot of things will have to be taken into consideration. “Driver, please I was to alight before the traffic light,” Annahs said. On getting down, he took a bike straight to the hospital.
“I want to donate some blood for some money.” “Please, we need to screen you and then you have to eat well before we start the process. “
“I have eaten sufficiently please.” The screening lasted for some time but he was more than willing to wait. An amount of ghc 150 was given to Annahs for the donation.
“Oh God,” he exclaimed to himself, “my blood money has arrived. Madina station, it is, right away. I need to get to Accra tonight.”
He decided to walk a bit before boarding a cab to the station. About some meters away from the EP park near the Hospital, Annahs noticed two young ladies approaching.
He recognized them instantly as close friends of his. It would be disastrous, to say the least if they were to spot him or call out to him.
“What will I do now? Immediately a thought dropped in his head, he ducked quickly to the shop near the park where coffins were being made and sold. Realizing that the owner was not at the post, he entered one of the coffins and closed it gently.
“What are Memuna and Jessica doing in Hohoe this faithful day?” “What have I not seen in this short life of mine? Oh, God. Save my soul.” “Wait, I saw someone like Annahs entering that shop in front of us.” “It’s not possible,” Memuna protested. “That Agamah lizard called Annahs? It’s not possible…”

“Okay, no need for an argument. Just follow me” Jessica insisted. When they got there, they met an empty shop except for the coffins lined up for sale.
“So, where is he? Or do you want to say he has entered one of the coffins?” “Yes, what can I offer you, young ladies, the shop owner thundered from behind. “We make every shape and size of a coffin.” “We eat from peoples’ demise,” he continued in an attempt to sound funny.
“Not at all, Sir.” “We thought we saw someone entering your shop but we just realized that our eyes were playing tricks on us.” A call came through to the shop owner at that moment.
“Carpenter, I hope you are ready for us.” “We are picking up the coffin at 5 pm,” the caller said. “I am more than ready for you, sir.” That was Yaovi’s Nephew. He was put in charge of the coffin for his uncle’s funeral.
Annahs, still in the coffin started texting his people. “In case you don’t see me again, give all my entitlements to my wife and children….FOREVER
“Tell my Lawyer to facilitate all documents so my land at Madina is given to my wife and children Forever.
“Ah! why is the coffin so heavy?” Yaovi`s cousin asked when he arrived at the shop together with some family members. “It’s quality wood. I gave you the very best. You know I don’t play with my work.”

“But this is too heavy ooo.” I finished polishing it after you left here in the morning.” Annahs decided to shake himself in the coffin when they were about to take the coffin into the waiting car.
Out of fear, they dropped the coffin while it opened on its own accord. The whole place went haywire. No one could boldly look in that direction.
What made Annahs so nervous was that he saw the picture of Yaovi on the T-shirt of one of the young men as they took to their heels.
Ghosts, ghosts they shouted as they all fled the scene. Knowing the area very well, Annahs run after them as if to chase them. Seeing that he was out of sight, he quickly stopped a bike that had no idea of what had transpired. “How are you? Sir. Please take me to the station.”
At the family house of Yaovi, news reached that a ghost was seen in his coffin. There were wailing and tears when the vehicle Annahs boarded reached Golo Kwati.
it was when bus got to Golo Kwati and seeing the Obituary of Yaovi on the hoisted banner, that it dawned on him that the coffin he slept in might have been that of Yaovi.
“Hmm… What a life! I don’t know how I would have survived if not for that coffin. At last, it was the coffin of he who wanted me dead that saved me.”
“As for me, I am going to Accra. I will take so long a break before I embark on my next assignment.”
The End.
