Making A Career Out Of Peoples’ Weaknesses

This is one of the most difficult articles  to write, considering the fact that one may seem to be doing the exact thing he is  complaining  about.

The truth is that, as a writer, I have a mandate to write to make things right. That is what really drives me to write every day.

Life is an interesting journey filled with all kinds of people. Let’s face facts. We all have strengths and weaknesses. But I have come to realize that, criticizing people who are in the limelight or popular has become a career path for some group of people.  What do I mean?

Today’s social media world is churning out a crop of both young and old people, whose specialty is focusing their lens on the weaknesses of other people. They shred these people into pieces and expect their monthly pay from the apps on which they do it.

Let me give a classical example to buttress my point. If you go to facebook or youtube today, you will see numerous channels dedicated to publishing the weaknesses, the mistakes and ills of notable people in society.

Also It has become a lucrative venture so much so that, these devious people just can’t wait for ‘big men’ to make mistakes.

The interesting fact is that, most of the people who engage in this vice are usually guilty of the very things they are busily accusing, and destructively criticizing others about.

Am I in any way condoning the negative behaviours and attitudes of popular people? No! Am I in anyway saying that when influential people make mistakes, we should cover it up as if it never happened? Not at all!

My point is this; there is a problem with all those people who come into the social media space with the sole intention and agenda of commercializing other peoples’ failures.

Let me be quick to clarify, that I am not in any way referring to investigative journalism. Where dedicated individuals who have society at heart, reveal the rot in our institutions and systems. These two are different.

My focal lens is on people who only concentrate on making a mockery of others, especially with monetary gain in mind. Firstly, my beef with them is that, when you listen to them, they don’t even proffer any solution to what they criticize.

The qualm with them is that it seems to me that all they are interested in, is how much YouTube or facebook will pay them.

As they keep doing this, they dampen the faith and trust that the masses may have in these people who have risen to occupy certain enviable positions in life. Particularly, when the stories being peddled about them, are not true.

Additionally, some people even loose their faith in God when these people make up stories which  targets preachers of the word of God.

I understand, that the church of God has its own share of problems. I know that political or business bigwigs have challenges they battle with every day.

The bigger problem for me has to do with the fact that, some people have decided they will not give solutions to problems.  They only exist, to capitalize on and make money out of the failures of their fellow men.

Having said these, the point has to be made clear, that there is a place for sounding the alarm against falsehood in the body of Christ and society at large.

in addition, there is also the place for calling out error in doctrines or systems in the body of Christ, politics and society. These should be done fearlessly but with a good conscience towards God and man.

After all, these were what the prophets did in biblical days. They called out error and spoke against untruth, half-truths and lies. Their voices were intended to exalt the truth of God and establish righteousness in the heart of men. This is what we should be doing today for God and Country.

Will this piece by any means stop these people?  It might not at all. But at least, it should be recorded that I informed you, my dear reader. That you will also be careful with what you feed your mind with.

To all people in notable positions, be it Pastors, Politicians or Business moguls, please be aware that this article is not to condone your weaknesses.

Always know that the way people adore your success which makes you feel good about yourselves, is the same way some will make a business entity out of your weaknesses also.

At the end of the day, let every man be careful how he conducts himself. Above all things, we will all  appear before the judgement throne of God and we will each give account of how we lived our lives.
